Brasília / DF - On Monday (9/11), the Federal Police conducted Operation Bocca related to the delineation of J & F executives. Federal police officers are serving five warrants, all dispatched by Minister Edson Fachin. There are four search and seizure warrants in the city of São Paulo and one in Rio de Janeiro.


The name of the operation is an allusion to Bocca della Verità. The most famous feature of Bocca is its role as lie detector. Since the Middle Ages, it is believed that if someone told a lie with their hand in the mouth of the sculpture, it would close by biting the liar's hand.


There will be no press conference.

Brasília/DF - A Polícia Federal realiza nesta segunda-feira (11/9) a Operação Bocca relacionada à delação dos executivos da J&F. Policiais Federais cumprem cinco mandados judiciais, todos expedidos pelo Ministro Edson Fachin. São quatro mandados de busca e apreensão, na cidade de São Paulo, e um no Rio de Janeiro.

O nome da operação é uma alusão à Bocca della Verità. A mais famosa característica da Bocca é seu papel como detector de mentiras. Desde a Idade Média, acredita-se que, se alguém contar uma mentira com a mão na boca da escultura, ela se fecharia mordendo a mão do mentiroso.


Não será concedida entrevista coletiva.

The new crackdown was dubbed Operation Bocca, after the sculpture named “Bocca della Verità,” one of Rome's tourist attraction. “Since the Middle Ages, it has been believed that if you tell a lie with your hand resting on the mouth of the statue, it would close, thus biting the hand of the liar,” a note issued by the police reads.

Arrests
Batista and Saud had been arrested since yesterday (10) at the Federal Police headquarters in São Paulo, from which they were transferred to Brasília late this morning. They turned themselves in on Sunday, before Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin's temporary arrest warrant could be brought into effect. Fachin granted the request filed by Prosecutor-General Rodrigo Janot.
The arrests were conducted after Janot ascertained that information was deliberately omitted by Batista and Saud in the four-hour-long audio recordings handed in by Batista's counsel, along with documents required under the plea bargain deal already ratified by Fachin.
In the recorded conversations, Batista and Saud discuss strategies to rid themselves of the allegations against them, along with the JPS group, controlled by the J&F conglomerate.

The Prosecutor-General's Office also requested the temporary arrest of former prosecutor Marcelo Miller, once a member of Janot's team. He is mentioned in the recordings as someone that could influence the prosecutor-general's decisions in favor of JBS and its executives. Fachin refused to issue an arrest warrant targeting Miller.

Agentes da Polícia Federal estão cumprindo hoje (11) cinco mandados de busca e apreensão, sendo quatro em São Paulo e um no Rio de Janeiro, na Operação Bocca, relacionada à prisão do empresário Joesley Batista, do grupo J&F, e do executivo da empresa, Ricardo Saud.
Os mandados são cumpridos nas residências dos dois executivos e na sede da J&F, em São Paulo, e na casa do ex-procurador da República Marcelo Miller, no Rio de Janeiro.
Ambos estão desde ontem (10) na sede da superintendência da PF em São Paulo e devem ser transferidos para Brasília até o início da tarde.
Essa operação ocorre em cumprimento à ordem judicial expedida pelo ministro do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) Edson Fachin, que acolheu o pedido do procurador-geral da República, Rodrigo Janot, de prisão temporária de Joesley Batista e Saud.

Também foi feito o pedido de prisão temporária de Miller, mas Fachin avaliou que não há elemento indiciário suficiente para tal procedimento.

Os advogados de Marcello Miller afirmaram que o ex-procurador recebeu com tranquilidade o pedido de buscas no seu apartamento e colaborou apresentando tudo o que foi solicitado. Ele "ressalta que continua à disposição, como sempre esteve e sempre estará, para prestar qualquer esclarecimento necessário e auxiliar a investigação no restabelecimento da verdade", afirmam os defensores André Perecmanis e Paulo Klein.

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Billionaire Joesley Batista, one of the owners of JBS SA, the world´s largest meatpacker, and executive Ricardo Saud surrendered on Sunday and were arrested by Brazilian police, their lawyer said.
Batista and Saud went to federal police headquarters in Sao Paulo on Sunday afternoon and will be transferred to Brasilia on Monday, their lawyer, Pierpaolo Bottini, said.
The arrests were ordered by Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin, who agreed to a request by Brazilian Prosecutor-General Rodrigo Janot. The court revoked immunity from prosecution under previous plea deals struck by Batista and Saud, a former director of holding company J&F Investimentos.
In his decision ordering both arrested for at least five days, Fachin wrote the state witnesses were “selective” and did not present all information related to crimes they confessed to in their plea deals.
Janot sought the arrests after Batista and Saud recorded themselves discussing crimes not covered in the plea bargain. The taped conversation, made public by the Supreme Court, was inadvertently submitted to prosecutors with unrelated material last week.
In a statement on Sunday, J&F lawyers said both men “did not lie nor omitted information” in their plea deals.
The Supreme Court Justice denied a request for the arrest of former prosecutor Marcelo Miller, who was accused by the prosecutor-general of helping Wesley and Joesley Batista with their plea deal before leaving the Prosecutor´s Office in April to a private law firm.

The Mouth of Truth.
The Mouth of Truth is a marble mask in Rome, Italy, which stands against the left wall of the portico of the Santa Maria in the Cosmedin church, at the Piazza della Bocca della Verità, the site of the ancient Forum Boarium (the ancient cattle market). It attracts visitors who audaciously stick their hand in the mouth.
The massive marble mask weighs about 1300 kg and probably depicts the face of the sea god Oceanus. The eyes, nostrils and mouth are open. Historians aren't quite certain what the original purpose of the disc was. It was possibly used as a drain cover in the nearby Temple of Hercules Victor, which had an oculus—a round open space in the middle of the roof, similar to that of the Pantheon. Hence, it could rain inside. It is also thought that cattle merchants used it to drain the blood of cattle sacrificed to the god Hercules. In the thirteenth century the disc was probably removed from the temple and placed against the wall of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin. In the seventeenth century it eventually moved to its current location inside the portico of the church.

The Mouth of Truth is now known mostly from its appearance in the 1953 film Roman Holiday. The film also uses the Mouth of Truth as a storytelling device since both Hepburn's and Peck's characters are not initially truthful with each other. In Het geheim van de afgebeten vingers by Dutch writer Rindert Kromhout,[1] the fingers of lying children are cut off by a skeleton with a scythe who lives in the Capuchin Crypt in the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini.
There are a number of Bocca della Verita replicas and derivative works. A full-size reproduction sits in the Alta Vista Gardens in California and one of Jules Blanchard's sculptures in the Luxembourg Garden in Paris depicts a woman with her hand in the sculpture's mouth. Coin-operated fortune teller machines have been developed and installed in different parts of the world, including one on display in the Musee Mecanique.[2][3]
The Mouth of Truth has also been featured as a theme in historical European art. Lucas Cranach the Elder, a German painter during the Renaissance period, created two paintings depicting a woman placing her hand in the mouth of a statue of a lion while onlookers watched, a subject which was drawn by Albrecht Altdorfer and made into a woodcut by the Dutch printmaker Lucas van Leyden.[4]
The Mouth of Truth also appears in the Anime Tokyo Ghoul Episode 4 about 16 minutes in, where the main character is forced to fend off other cannibalistic Ghoul's executioner.

La Bocca della Verità ou A Boca da Verdade é uma imagem esculpida em mármore pavonazzo de uma face humanoide que fica no pórtico de Santa Maria in Cosmedin, em Roma, Itália. Acredita-se que a escultura tenha sido parte de uma antiga fonte romana antiga ou, talvez, um tampão de bueiro, e retrate um entre vários possíveis deuses romanos,[1] provavelmente Oceano. A maior parte dos romanos acredita que a Bocca representa o antigo deus fluvial do rio Tibre.
A mais famosa característica da Bocca é seu papel como detector de mentiras. Desde a Idade Média, acredita-se que se alguém contar uma mentira com a mão na boca da escultura, ela se fecharia "mordendo" a mão do mentiroso. Existe ainda uma antiga lenda medieval, que se atribui incorretamente ao poeta romano Virgílio, de uma imperatriz romana que teria conseguido enganar o marido durante um julgamento usando a Bocca. Este tema, raro na arte medieval e renascentista, era parte do topos literário do "Poder das Mulheres".[2] A peça foi colocada no pórtico da igreja no século XVII.

A história da imperatriz é uma das xilogravuras da série "Poder das Mulheres" de Lucas van Leyden (ca. 1512),[3] embora não seja comum que a imagem apareça em grupos similares. Ela apareceu também no filme "Roman Holiday" (1953), cujo enredo utilizou-a como artifício para indicar que as personagens de Audrey Hepburn e Gregory Peck não estariam sendo fieis um ao outro. Ela foi repetida em 1994 no filme Only You, estrelando Robert Downey Jr. e Marisa Tomei, e novamente no filme japonês "Sleeping Bride", de Hideo Nakata, em 2000.
